The mission of Keep Beatrice Beautiful (KBB) is to engage individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their community environment. Background
The organization is a local, state and national award winning affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. Established in 1982, the main goal is to eliminate litter, to beautify the community through partnerships with businesses, organizations and individual volunteers, and to encourage citizens to recycle and “to close the Loop ” and purchase recycled materials. Litter control, beautification and recycling awareness are ongoing. Awareness and an ethic of environmental responsibility must be cultivated. Goals
As a community service program the KBB goals are based on the four major Keep America Beautiful system components: Education, Enforcement, Technology and Ordinances. Our major goal is to encourage citizens of all ages to participate in a cleaner, more beautiful environment.
Program Overview
KBB basic service is to 12, 000 citizens in Beatrice, but programs and cleanups are developed with groups in the entire Gage County , population 25,000. In 2019, 1,132 volunteers picked up 13,060 lbs. of litter (6.53 ton); 150 trees were planted; over 5,000 pieces of information were distributed. In 2015, KBB received a $10,000 Keep America Beautiful/DOW grant to purchase 330 gallons of paint to paint the ceilings and walls of the Municipal Auditorium; KBB received a $10,000 Keep America Beautiful/ LOWE'S grant to build a ADA shelter and purchase ADA picnic tables at a Beatrice Ball complex; and 1.3 tons of litter have been picked up from road right-of-ways by adult and youth volunteers between April 2016 and January 2017.
